“Easy on the Eyes: Amy” Portrait Photograph of a Beautiful Man playing Cards

2010

About the Item

“Easy on the Eyes: Amy“ is a staged photograph of an attractive man in a cinematic scene. In this series, I explore the female gaze by providing visual pleasure specifically designed for a female viewer—though others may look over her shoulder. Each scene includes a male character depicted in mid-narrative and an “implied woman” somewhere just outside the frame. She is not visible, but we do see her discarded clothing and poker hand. He is the photograph’s subject matter, but she is the narrative’s protagonist. Each photograph is titled after the female character in the quoted text. The text panel and image are printed together on a single sheet of paper. The implied narrative of the photograph is juxtaposed with a passage from a novel by a prominent female author describing a male character. The text disrupts, misdirects, and complicates the implied narrative of the photographic image (read text below). This photograph is an Archival Pigment Print on Cotton Fiber Paper, printed in a limited-edition of 10. The standard print sizes are 15 x 30” and 20 x 40”. The photograph is signed and numbered on the back and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Prints are sold unframed; framing may be arranged for an additional cost. Free shipping may be available from 1st Dibs. Apply code: FREESHIP. Text panel: “Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. “If my memory serves me, you once thought it your duty to make a rich match; that accounts, perhaps, for your marrying a good-for-nothing like me. . . . You are not listening to my moral remarks, Mrs. Laurence,”—and Laurie paused, for Amy’s eyes had an absent look, though fixed upon his face. “Yes I am, and admiring the dimple in your chin at the same time. I don’t wish to make you vain, but I must confess that I’m prouder of my handsome husband than of all his money. Don’t laugh, —but your nose is such a comfort to me,” and Amy softly caressed the well-cut feature with artistic satisfaction.
