Adolf Dehn That Pig of A Morin original lithograph published Lawrence Barrett 1945 handmade paper 15.50 x 12 signed and titled in pencil by artist That Pig of a Morin is from a portfolio of 20 lithographs “Selected Tales of Guy de Maupassant,” each based on a Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) short story. Printed on handmade paper by Lawrence Barrett (1897-1973), Colorado Springs, CO 1945 . Edition 250 signed and titled in pencil by the artist. This is a very nice dark impression. The story is of Morin who is aggressively amorous with a young girl on a train. Adolf Dehn (1895-1968) was one of the most notable lithographers of the 20th century. His work is held in over 100 museums including the Smithsonian. Guy Pene DuBois wrote in Creative Art “Few artists have ever made the lithographic stone work as Dehn has, got so much richness out of it, so large a range of color, so tremendously sensuous an effect” “My attitude to life is rather sensuous—and sensual too—and only after I have filled myself with sensuous experiences can I go about working. Putting it simply: when I am fed up, I work. I am crazy about life and want to have as much out of it as I can. Take away my work and I lose interest in life, yet the work comes after my living life, or rather out of it.” Adolf Dehn Condition: There is some tape residue 3 inches long 3/16 wide on top margin and a crease on the bottom left corner that will be covered when framed.

    Leaves of Love-Orange Lady is an original signed limited edition (XXII/ XXX) lithograph by Alessandro Nastasio showing a full figured orange colored nude holding flowers in each hand standing with her bare feet on the ground. She appears to have wing like orange and green leaves surrounding her. Paper size 18.25 x 11.75 image 13 x 7.75 in very good condition. Alessandro Nastasio was born in Milan in 1934. In 1952 he followed the “free school of the nude” led by Aldo Salvatori. In 1960 he attended the Atelier of Giorgio Upilio where Giacometti, Lam, Fontana, De Chirico worked and where he had the opportunity to study the themes of the inspiring myths. He worked at the MAF foundry with the master Tullio Figini who shared the secrets of the lost wax Renaissance fusion and where he met the masters Crocetti, Manfrini, Manzu , Minguzzi, Fabbri,. He then moved on to Quinto de Stampi at the De Andreis foundry where Marino Marini, Pomodoro, Rudy Wach, Strebelle, Negri and Rosental operated. A regular reader of the great sapienzal texts of antiquity, he trained in particular on the Bible which he illustrated with woodcuts, aquatints, etchings and linocuts, especially the Song of Songs, the book of Ecclesiastes and several pages of the Gospels He also drew his inspiration from the philosophical-religious tradition of the Eastern world through the reading of Rig-Veda, Upanisad and the Matnavi of Rumi. In 1966-67 he obtained the chair at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera and for thirty years he devoted himself to the teaching of Art Education in various schools. Nastasio created works both pictorial and plastic in collaboration with famous architects such as: Figini and Pollini, De Carli, Gardella, Faranda, Selleri, Ponti. Plate #131 Unframed Size: 11 3/8 x 15 3/4”The "Les Maitres de l'Affiche" series was offered as a subscription series to collectors every month for 60 months, from December 1895 through November 1900. The "Maitres de l'Affiche," were issued as separate numbered sheets, referred to as "plates". They were numbered, with the printers name "Imprimerie Chaix," in the margin at the bottom left hand corner, "PL.1" to "PL.240." In the margin at the bottom right hand corner of each, is a blind embossed stamp from a design of Cheret's. The smaller format and the fact the "Maitres" were a paid subscription series, allowed Imprimerie Chaix to use the latest state of the art printing techniques, not normally used in the large format posters due to cost. A very high quality of paper was used, where as the large format posters were printed on lesser quality newsprint, due to cost and a short expected life span. This explains why the quality of the printing, in the "Maitres de l'Affiche," usually far exceeds that of their larger counterparts. The text reads "Great Tileworks of Ivry, founded in 1854, Ivry-Port near Paris; the largest ceramics factory in the world for building, industry and art productions; Emille Muller stoneware; execution of works by masters of statuary; architectural facings; decorative sculpture; showroom and salesroom, 3 rue Halevy; the only tile able to bear the names Muller and Ivry; (tiles) guaranteed against frost" Given the commission for an extremely text heavy poster, the artist executes a masterful design. The angelic young boy holds the wares of this famous ceramics factory, against an abstract background awash in organic green hues. The handling of the immense text that flows from top to bottom in every available space shows great artistic skill, as the overall beauty of the design is intact.
