Rare seldom available 1980s Keith Haring illustrated New School university catalog featuring Haring double-sided cover art and a printed signature. Quite scarce, especially in good condition as presented here.

Very good overall vintage condition with the exception of surface creasing in a couple of areas; well-preserved with crisp colors.
Printed signature on lower left ("1985 Haring"); from an edition of unknown; published 1985/1986 by the New School (New York, NY).
Haring credit further appears on the lower left interior of 1st pg: 'Cover art for New School by Keith Haring.' (See the 2nd to last image in listing).
Keith Haring rose to prominence in 1980s New York within the East Village art scene alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, and Jenny Holzer. He bridged the gap between the art world and the street, graffiting city subways and sidewalks before committing to a studio practice. Haring united the appeal of cartoons with the raw energy of Art Brut artists such as Jean DuBuffet as he developed a distinct pop-graffiti aesthetic that comprised energetic, boldly outlined figures against solid or patterned backdrops. His major themes included exploitation, subjugation, drug abuse, and the threat of nuclear holocaust; Haring boldly engaged with social issues, especially after receiving an AIDS diagnosis in 1987. Today, his work sells for seven figures at auction and has been the subject of solo shows at the Brooklyn Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna, among other institutions.

Fantastic imagery full of detail and symbolism – For example discover the cast shadow of the dept collector with his truncheon, looming over the winner, whose fast gained riches are being stolen by a thief as we watch.
This well know subject was originally created by the famous British artist William Hogarth and then reproduced over time by many contemporary artists as prints of various formats and as paintings.
Here we have a rendition engraved by William Dent, who was active from 1783 to 1793 and signed his work in the plate bottom right. I think this impression would date to the late 18th or then to the very early 19th Century.
I was told, that these small prints, served as entry tickets to cock fights in Georgian England...

A substantial and rare, mid-century silkscreen showing a Hawaiian family seated beneath a traditional tent of tapa cloth and being served poi by a young woman. To realize this complex work, Cunningham used as many as one dozen hand-drawn screens, each of which varied in pigment, hue and opacity. Created during the extraordinary creative ferment that characterized the last year of the artist's life, this work represents a remarkable achievement for both artist and medium.
Born in Indiana, Marion Osborn Cunningham moved to California in 1911. She first studied art with the American Impressionist, Ruth Heil Emerson, before continuing her education at Santa Barbara City College and receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University. She subsequently furthered her studies at the California School of the Fine Arts and at the Art Students League in New York City, where she met and married the American abstract artist Ben Cunningham.
