JOHN MARTIN (1789 – 1854) DEATH OF THE FIRST BORN, Dedicated to His Majesty King Louise Philippe, King of the French, as a Tribute of the Artist’s Grateful Sense of the High Honors his Majesty has Graciously Pleased to Confer upon Him, 1836 “PROOF” lower left Mezzotint - FINE IMPRESSION - “Designed & Engraved by John Martin, Chevalier of the Order of Leopold, c&c. London, Published June 1st 1836 by J. Martin, 30 Allsop Terrace: Ackerman’s & Co. Strand, Hodgson & Graves 6 Pall Mall, & Moon Threadneedle St. City”. Lower right Depose a la direction. Exodus 12 29-30. Large scale mezzotint - Image 18 3/4 x 28 3/4: plate 21 7/8 x 30 - Large sheet 25 x 34. In a very good state of preservation save for a well repaired tear in lower margin into text. Two tears into upper margin. Remnants of old tape in upper margin.
