About the Item

Russian-born and European-educated Alexander Kachinsky was a designer of stage sets (for the Ballet Russe), furniture, and commercial interiors. His prints are in the collection of the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian American Art museum, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. He came to this country in the 1920s. "Uptown," about 1940, is a New York City view with remarkable spacing and perspective of buildings and bridges. It is signed and titled in pencil.

    The sheet in in generally good condition. There are soft creases, mostly in the margins, an old piece of tape at a lower corner on the reverse, minor discoloring at edges, and 'KAC' written on the reverse in a smudgy pencil.
