Fine French Empire Gilt Bronze Antique Mantel Clock by Honoré Pons, circa 1830
By Honoré Pons
Located in Shippensburg, PA
Surmounted by a seated artist, this fine clock is of a quality in cast and finish that is above reproach. Beneath the mercury gilding, remnants of the hand chasing are visible across all surfaces, evidence of the chiseleur's labor in carefully filing the bronze sculpture into perfect realism. The figure is draped in a complex folded cape, his hand rested along scrolls of sketches over a square pedestal, propped in a moment of thoughtful repose. The squared case of the clock features an etched clock face with a Roman Numeral chapter ring and pierced hands. The movement was designed by Pierre-César Honoré...
