"Southern Gentleman" Unusal White Subject. Known for his African American
By William Aiken Walker

William Aiken Walker 1839-1921 Galveston Artist Image Size: 20 x 16 Frame Size: 24 x 20 Medium: Oil "Southern Gentleman" Exhibited Piece.
The painting has been lined many, many years ago. A pretty good old school job. The frame is in good shape. Some separating at the corner joints. I can correct that as I own a frame shop as well as the gallery. It was exhibited in 1972 at the Louisiana State Museum. Including photos of the exhibition label as well as the loan inventory number. As you probably know this painting is much larger than most of his works. It is also the only white subject that I have seen. I have heard about another of a girl that sold at a small Louisiana Auction several years ago. Please let me know if you have further questions. Regards, Charles Morin

Currier and Ives published several of his color lithographs in 1884; most notably "Cotton Plantation on the Mississippi" and "The Levee, New Orleans...
