Japanese Silver and Mixed Metal Koro, Artist Signed

About the Item

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this super quality Meiji Period 1868-1912, pure silver and mixed metal koro or incense burner, the heavy silver body stands upon a three legged base and has been cast with ripples of water in relief as a pair of majestic carp swim through, the reverse sees an explosion of water as a carp leaps from beneath the surface, each fish finely rendered in shakudo before being applied to the silver body, further mixed metal decorated water lilies complete the theme, the koro is fitted with a heavy silver liner above which sits a pierced and reticulated silver lid from which the incense escapes , artist signed in a bold script to the shoulder translating to Oju Chikanori Sen, made on commission by Chikanori, a quite magical piece of mixed metalwork from an artist clearly very accomplished at hand forming silver into opulent vessels such as this .
