Ancient Japanese Painting Framed in Brass 'Traditional Dance'
Located in Milano, IT
Ancient and very rare Japanese painting made in the early 1900s, fine Japanese manufacture. The painting has a rectangular brass frame, with rounded corners. Internally we see a further frame in yuta, classic sand colour, very nice. Yet another very small brass frame that frames the picture. The painting is a print painted on black cardboard, with whimsical and strong colors, typical of Japanese art. This represents a scene with a man and a woman, intent on dancing, arm in arm and spinning in a typical traditional Japanese dance...

Japanese Silver Screen Pair, Meiji Period, Herons & Plovers, Shijo School
Located in Kyoto, JP
Heron & Plovers Ink and silver leaf on paper Maekawa Bunrei (1837-1917) A pair of low six-panel Japanese screens by Maekawa Bunrei, a later master of the Kyoto based Shijo school of painting. On the right screen a solitary white heron stands motionless in a stream. On the left screen plovers play along a shoreline. The elegant forms are executed employing fluid, minimalistic ink brushstrokes. The soft brushstrokes and the sharp light of the silver leaf lend the scenes a sense of translucence. The sophisticated composition superbly exploits the long, horizontal pictorial surface of the pair of folding screens...

Japanese Screen Painting, circa 1700 'Horses' by Kano Tanshin
Located in Kyoto, JP
Horses Kano Tanshin Morimasa (1653-1718) Two-panel tea-ceremony Japanese screen or furosaki Ink on gold leaf, late 17th-early 18th century Measures: H 55 cm x W 182 cm The Kano school was closely aligned with the warrior class in Japan. The samurai, who lived in a closed and rigid hierarchical society established by the Shogunate, were drawn to the energy and freedom horses symbolize; Kano school artists commonly depicted the equine creatures as they are here, in unfettered and carefree family groups. China originally introduced horse paintings to Japan; the works typically focused on capturing the essence of horses in their various environments and often involved integrating human figures into the images. Kano Tanshin Morimasa (1653-1718) was the son of Kano Tanyu...

Japanese Screen of Spring on Gold Leaf
Located in Brescia, IT
It is a two-panel screen from the Taisho period, around 1920, beautifully painted in excellent detail. The best of Rinpa's school painting: large empty space that highlights a pair of mandarin ducks in the middle of the pond. On the right, flying birds give the painting a great lightness, under many multicolored flowers they celebrate spring. All very proportionate and pleasant, the dimension really interesting. Mineral pigments on gold leaf. It turns out Anonymous. Lucio Morini.

Kishi Renzan (1804-1859) Tigers Pair of six-panel Japanese screens. Ink and gold-leaf on paper. In this monochromatic pair of six-fold Japanese screens painted on gold-leaf, Kishi Renzan has created a breathtaking composition of a family of tigers. The screens are filled with a sense of drama which is conveyed by both the subject matter and the wet, expressive brushwork. The running mountain stream and the towering waterfall allude to refreshment during the summer months and we feel the tiger families familiarity and security within their environment. Japanese Black Red Gold Handcrafted Brocade Silk Wall Decorative Art
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Extraordinary Japanese contemporary captivating highly collectible oshie decorative art piece with a three-dimensional effect, a Japanese traditional decorative art with a “yoroi” or “samurai armor” design in red, black and gold. It depicts an extremely intricate and highly decorated Japanese armor, and demonstrates the Fine materials and the attention to details that go into creating oshie wall decorations. The artist has used exquisite antique silk brocades and silk to recreate this exceptional piece in oshie form. All of the geometric patterns in red on the side and the bottom of the yoroi, and all the intricate details in red throughout, are the result of an extremely time-consuming process of painstakingly wrapping red silk thread around blocks covered with thick black kimono fabric, making sure they are tightly aligned to create perfect squares, rectangles and lines. “Oshie” (literally, “pressed pictures”) is a traditional Japanese art form dating back to Edo period (1603-1868), and is said to have been born of the reluctance of ladies of the court to discard the magnificent silk kimonos and brocaded obi they have donned for a life time. The solution was to transform these opulent fabrics into stunning works of art. The frame is not included. Oshie resembles a carefully crafted jigsaw puzzle consisting of numerous pieces of kimono fabric padded with slightly varying thickness of cotton and painstakingly glued and ironed together to create an incredible three-dimensional picture. Highly detailed oshie contain hundreds of tiny pieces that are expertly aligned to express subtle gradations of color and pattern, as well as light and shade. In the final process, the details are characterized by painting and shading, and facial features are painted in miniature-like exactitude. Yoroi is armor worn by high-ranking samurai on horseback in Japan’s feudal age. Its box shape and the heavy weight due to the decorations did not allow much movement. Yoroi is covered with hundred of small iron or leather scales laced together using leather cords or braided silk. Differences in color, design and lacing served as identifying markers for individual clans. “Kabuto” or “helmet”, one of the yoroi components, served to protect and to impress. Like yoroi, it was decorated with colorful scales, and was often adorned with a family crest and wooden or deer horns. This breathtaking Oshie piece is the work of a life-long oshie artist who prides herself in the selection of the best available antique and vintage kimono and obi fabrics...
