Ainu Bear with baby and fish, Hokkaido, Japan, Keyaki, Showa period. Hewn from one solid piece of Keyaki wood, this bear flashes a ferocious expression or roar of triumph for landing a fish, with her baby bear nearby. This is referred to as the "Ainu" bear because it is carved solely by the Ainu, the indigenous people of Northern Japan.
