Large Japanese Lacquered Gourd Ikebana vessel with storage box, mid-20th century. Ikebana, the art of flower arrangement, is one of the most sublime Japanese art traditions. Containers are varied and innovative. This large gourd was lacquered inside and tiny lacquered feet were added to balance the shape. When not in use, it is stored in a custom made kiri box, which measures 7.5H x 9D x 33W inches.
