About the Item
This pair of Italian 18th century (early 1700) hugely decorative archictectural pilasters friezes is deeply hand carved with a wonderful compositions of fruits, flowers and leaves, the whole hand painted, lacquered and gilded. These pillars are an amazing examples of Sicilian folk art, they maybe were part of choral ensemble and now are antiques artworks for ornamental. The slightly scrolled design and the cheerful decorative motifs of these pillars make them perfect to be used to flank a bookshelf, to highlight a nich, to finish architraves, balustrades, balconies or simply to hang on the wall as a wooden sculpture both vertical and horizontal.
These hand painted pillars develop on the entire surface a carving with leafy curls and flowers sculpted in high relief can be used in many imaginative ways, you can also add a base to turn them into lamps or use them as a huge overdoors. Such lavish panelling building elements with multi-layered decoration were typical of South Italy interiors of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. They will be now a great and one of a kind addition to any interior design project to inject a strong touch of Italianate and Mediterranean taste.
