Barovier Toso Green & Gold Striped Murano Glass Bowl

About the Item

Gorgeous Murano, Italy glass decorative bowl. Hand blown in the shape of a flower. Featuring alternating clear glass and green glass stripes around the floral shape as well as "graffito" which is the technique of adding gold leaf flakes. These flakes add sparkle and shine within many different layers of the glass and are very prevalent when turning the bowl over... a nice treat when cleaning. This piece has been documented to designer Ercole Barovier of Italian Glass brand Barovier & Toso which was based in Venice since 1295 and still exists and manufactures today. This model and style stems from Italy in the mid-century circa 1960s. Likely was used as a vide-poche or an ashtray at the time. This piece has a good weight to it, but too beautiful to be used as a personal protection device.

  • Yasha Heifetz Cerused Oak Sculptural Table Lamp
    By Heifetz, Yasha Heifetz
    Located in New York, NY
Yasha Heifetz designed lamp for self manufacturing company, Heifetz Lighting Co. A tall sculptural biomorphic cerused oak wood table lamp on black painted wooden base. Carved from a single piece of oak and mounted on a rectangle tapered wood base. Features original leather lampshade with original black whip-stitch trim to accent its black wooden base. 2 pieces of damage to shade, both shown in images, are both not noticeable when the light is in use. Incredible condition for work created in the 1950's. Yasha Heifetz began Heifetz Lighitng Company in 1938. He rose to fame in 1950 when he co-sponsored and was an esteemed judge, alongside Marcel Breur and 2 directors of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) of NYC in a lighting design competition for MoMA itself. Their search was in response to a quest by both Heifetz and Breuer to find a well designed modern lamp. Both claimed at the time that all available options felt "flat and static" as most lamps design ethos felt more attention on the lamp rather than the lighting it emit. Over 600 designers participated in the competition; including Richard Schultz of Knoll and Alexey Brodovitch...
