Stunning Renaissance Revival Nuptial Casket / Box, Great Patina, Lock and Key
Located in Lisse, NL
Top quality made and excellent condition, antique Grand Tour box for the connoisseurs. Over the years we have had the pleasure of owning and selling some truly beautiful antique boxes and this handcrafted jewelry box is right up there with the rarest. It takes a very well trained eye to see that the amazingly detailed images of Mythological figures and the scrolling leaf patterns are actually embossed in a leather surface. We'll be honest with you, at first we too thought this was a hand carved box. In that way too, the Italian grand tour antiques never seize to amaze. Over the many decades the embossed leather that decorates the exterior of this antique wooden box has 'accumulated' the most wonderful patina. The combination of this unique leather surface with the perfectly forged iron straps and striking lock plate truly is to die for. Looking at these iron details, this box was actually hand-crafted in the early Renaissance Style, because they have a Gothic look and feel to them. As you can see this one of a kind antique Italian box...
