Elegant and beautiful Dressing Table or it could be suitable for a jewellery box , Meiji Period ( 1868 - 1912 ).
Executed with black lacquer, holding a bronze hand mirror ( ekagami)
Configured with five smooth-running drawers of different Size. Two are equipped with slender "hirute"-shaped bail handles and three with decorative pull-rings.
The front-and backside featuring oval grips for easy transport.
Surmounted by a mirror frame in a shape reminiscent of a Shintô shrine torii-gate-
a twin-posted framework with a triangular crossbar flared in upswept Chinese-style gable ( Karahafu) endings.
Resting of the frame is the Japanese traditional handheld mirror with auspicious embossed design of wisteria ( fuji) and lovely patina.
Inscription on the right.
Considering its age the set is in a very good condition with some traces of usage and wear conform age.

Tebako box with three compartments in golden and nashi-ji lacquer, decorated with golden, red, and kirigane lacquer, golden persimmon tree leaves, among rocks. The compartments are of increasing size from the top. The decoration is in continuity.
Persimmon has been cultivated in southern China for more than 2500 years and is believed to have been introduced to Japan in the 8th century. The veneer is a tree with very hard wood, similar to ebony. According to a legend, one specimen survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, close to the epicenter. It is therefore in Japan a symbol of strength and longevity. It is also the national fruit of the country. It is eaten as a traditional dish during New Year's Day celebrations.

Japanese Lacquer Maki-E Scroll Box Fubako by Kansonsai Edo Period

A Japanese lacquered wood fubako (a box to store document or small scroll painting) circa late 18th century of Edo period. The rectangular box features a deep lid with rounded corners and recessed mid-edge and a lower box with two bronze medallion rings and tasseled silk ties. The surface of the fubako was elaborately decorated with hiramaki-e and a low takamaki-e on a mottled Mura-nashiji background. The motifs on the lid depict branches of Japanese pine with finely rendered needles on the lower part; on the upper part, it showcases fruited persimmon branches. Two different shades of gold fundame were used to contrast the design and augmented by scattered gold kirigane to highlight some of the leaves. The design continues and cascades down to all sides of the lid as well as the walls of the box. The two bronze medallions appear original to the box and the silk ties show significant fading from the age. This Fine fubako is signed on the lower wall "Kanshosai" in Kanji with a kao mark. All the trims were finished in gold fundame and the interiors a dense nashiji in gold.
Kanshosai is the mark of the distinguished lacquer artist Lizuka Toyo I who also signed his work "Toyosai". He was active in the second half of the 18th century during Edo period, employed by Hachisuka Shigeyoshi (1738-1801), daimyo of Awa on Shikoku Island. Although most survived work bearing his marks are inros, he was also known to decorated trays and other larger objects...

An impressive pair of antique Chinese two tiered hexagon shaped wedding basket or box. Made of lacquered bamboo and rattan. Hand painted in red and black with green accents.
Written cursive script translates to poems about "picking mulberry leaves" and "the dangerous and difficult road when traveling through mountains". Also mentioned "Bailu" (15th solar term in the traditional Chinese calendars, around September), "Huangmei" (rainy season, in the Middle And Lower Reaches Of The Yangtze River), which could indicate this basket is probably made in the region near middle or lower part of Yangtze river.
The orange marks on bottom ??/?? both translate to Wu Dui, who we assume was the artist / maker.
Festive red stacking lacquer boxes are used for carrying food during the wedding procession of the bride. Usually there are two sets of boxes to balance each on the end of the pole. The top box serves as a lid for the bottom box and has a lid of its own. All are beautifully painted in red for good luck.

This Antique Sewing box is octagonal-shaped with a rolled top, it features a hinged lid whilst standing on four carved winged Dragon's feet.
The border on this Sewing Box is beautifully decorated with intricately worked foliate gilt borders and it shows various scenes of Chinese figures in pavilion gardens. The chinoiserie gold decoration adorns the exterior of the piece with decorative scenes of small Chinese figures in pavilion gardens.
The interior houses a removable tray with eighteen compartments containing various bone sewing supplies. Two compartments in the interior have lids that match the beautiful chinoiserie decoration on the exterior of the box.
There is a lockable drawer at the front of the box which contains six compartments. In one of the boxes, the lid is hinged and beautifully decorated to complement the box's exterior.
An elegant tasselled key that operates a fully operational lock is included with this wonderful Chinoiserie Sewing Box.
