Empire Sevres Style Porcelain Bronze Mounted Mantel Picard Clock

About the Item

This a Sevres style porcelain ormolu bronze mounted mantel clock. The frontal cobalt blue porcelain panel is hand painted with a winged cherub holding a basket of flowers. Below him, there is another basket of flowers with ribbons. The dial is in Roman numbers encircled in gilt. There are some delicate gilt scrolls around the dial and the corners. Each corner has a gilt quatrefoil adorned with turquoise and red enamel dots. Both sides porcelain panels have the same decoration, but including a wide bronze long acanthus leaves scroll that end in the middle with a bunch of branches of holly. The lower border is adorned with layers of laurel leaves and in the center there is an ornament made of trumpets, a tambourine, a book, some rosettes and laurel leaves branches. There is a cobalt blue adorned metal ball finial over the upper base gadrooning border. Four acanthus leaves with a rosette center are in each corner of the square surrounding the bronze pedestal of the finial. The cross shaped base is supported by six toupie feet. Under one of them is inscribed Picard. There is a key to wind the clock. The clock is working well.

  • Condition:
    Wear consistent with age and use. The bronze frame of the clock is from 19th century, but the clock machinery is from 1920. Two toupie feet are missing in the back, but are not needed because the clock stay well supported.
