Fabergé Enamel Table Clock

About the Item

More than a simple clock, this timepiece by the revered Fabergé firm is a work of art. Created circa 1900 during the golden age of Fabergé, this exquisite circular table clock is comprised of translucent rose pink enamel accented by silver gilt. The radiating guilloché design creates a stunning visual effect. No detail was spared in creating this treasure, a testament to the excellence of Fabergé and the stewardship of the famed workmaster Henrik Wigström, who oversaw the creation of this timepiece as well as many of the famed Imperial Fabergé eggs. The House of Fabergé was founded in 1842 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, by Gustav Faberge. In 1872, Peter Carl Fabergé took over his father's small jewelry atelier and transformed it into the world's most important decorative arts enterprise. The firm developed a devoted clientele, including the Romanov Imperial family. The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought an end to the Romanov dynasty as well as the exile of Peter Carl Fabergé to Switzerland. In the wake of the Revolution, many Fabergé treasures were lost or destroyed. Items of silver and gold, including many of the court and presentation pieces created for the Tsar, were melted down, making surviving Fabergé objects from this time all the rarer. Circa 1900 Struck with the workmaster's initials "H. W." for Henrik Wigström Marked "Fabergé" in Cyrillic with the 88 standard mark 4 1/2" diameter.
