Footed Bowl Gold Leaf and Grapes, Ercole Barovier for Barovier Toso & Co 1949

About the Item

Classically shaped oval bowl is a master class of technique and elegance, designed by Ercole Barovier (1889-1974) circa 1948 for Barovier, Toso & Co. It has an edging of white on the opening of the vessel. The handles are formed into the sides of the bowl in the shape of grapes applied with gold leaf. The rippled body of the bowl is heighten by the sandwich of two layers of clear glass in the middle are tiny golden flecks floating throughout its transparent form. The ripped body of the bowl magnifies and enhances the reflective quality of the gold. All of which sits on a tiered gold leaf and white opaque stand. Barovier made his mark on the company, the glass-works industry and history. The lamp executed by Barovier and Toso shows the technical complexity of a company founded in 1295. Barovier and Toso have held the realm of its glass works for 750 years in Italy as Vetreria Artistica Barovier & Co.
