Large Chinese Foo lion. Predominantly green glaze with golden yellow detail attributed to Tang Dynasty glaze coloring. This unusually large foo dog displays fierce countenances. It hold the traditional 'ball'. Typically seen as part of a pair guarding an entrance. Museum quality. No maker marks observed. According to historical books, lions were introduced into Mainland China firstly as tributes to the Emperors.
