Beautiful Wall Assembled Figure of King David playing the Harp by Emaus workshop

About the Item

Very well-designed stylized decorative piece depicting King David playing the harp with the walls and buildings of Jerusalem suggested in the elements in the background. The work combines very harmoniously copper, brass, and 0.925 Sterling. The whole composition is mounted on a robust piece of Mahogany wood signed at the back: EMAUS (TALLERES MONÁSTICOS). Talleres Monásticos was a workshop created around 1956 in a Benedictine Monastery in "Ahuacatitlán" Cuernavaca, Morelos State, México, to manufacture decorative quality work in mixed metals inspired by biblical and religious scenes. The creative force behind it was a talented architect, designer, and typographer called Fray Gabriel Chávez de la Mora (1929-2022) who became a Benedictine monk in 1955. The beautiful and delicate pieces coming out of the workshop were sold to sustain the expenses of the Monastery and its inhabitants, along with other agricultural endeavors. Their pieces show the graphic synthetic-abstract style developed skilfully by Chávez de la Mora.
