Vintage Oversized Metal Decanter with Hunt Scene

About the Item

Presenting a glorious piece of American Folk Art!! This is an oversized metal decanter with decorated wooden stopper. On one side there is the most fabulous hand painted fox hunting scene of a Huntsman on Horseback, with footman and hounds traversing a fence in a field with trees and background. On the other side there is another hand painted scene of the hunting hounds running through a field with a wooden fence and tress and background. There is a beautiful innocence to the painting, it is Classic Folk Art!! We are of the opinion that this hails from the North East of the U.S. where hunting is still practiced to this day!! The reason we believe it is American (and not British) is the Huntsman’s Hat, which is more an American style than their British counterparts and also the choice of hounds. These hounds appear to be more similar to Dalmatians than Basset Hounds that would be used in the UK. The piece has some 'age' to it. We think it was probably made in the early 20th century. The stopper is made of wood, stained green and hand decorated with old paint. The body of the decanter is bulbous in shape and painted green, in keeping with the theme ! The piece has a few 'dings' but we feel that this only adds to its beauty as it was never made to be anything other than a decorative piece. IF you love'hunting', you will adore this !! Fine Art it is not, but it is truly unique and beautiful in its own right and an important record of America's history and lifestyle!! This is one of the reasons I love this piece, it is not pretentious, it is a simple recording of every day life in the Countryside!!

Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Has a few indentations and some very minor chipping to reverse painting but otherwise very good for it's age.
