Minton Secessionist Ware Jardiniere Pattern 71

About the Item

This Minton jardiniere is a lovely example of their "Secessionist" range, which was designed by Leon Solon and John Wadsworth. The pattern is number 71 and the raised borders were applied by a technique known as tube lining or slip trailing. When the the coloured glazes ran during the firing, it gave the effect of a piece of individual art pottery, which it is, in effect, as each piece will be slightly different. It stands 260 mm (10.25 inches) high and has a diameter of 287 mm (11.25 inches) at the rim. Overall, its condition is very good, but it does suffer from a bit of crazing and a shallow firing crack to the base. Both these are shown in the photos. C 1904.
