Minton Hand Painted Small Jardiniere or Cachepot

About the Item

This beautifully painted and gilded small porcelain jardiniere, or cachepot, carries the Minton circular crown and ermine mark which was applied to only high quality porcelain and earthern wares of the period 1860-70, including many Exhibition pieces. Each of the four sides features a slightly raised medallion decorated with hand painted scenes and ringed with hand tooled gilding. It stands on four square gilded feet and each corner is topped with a small gilded pointed finial. The height is 127 mm, (5 inches) and it is 96 mm (3.75 inches) square. As well as the printed and painted marks, the base is impressed with the Minton mark and the date code, but the date code is illegible due to the glaze. It does suffer from very fine crazing, which is only noticeable under a magnifying glass. There are some faint cracks to one of the pillars on the inside, but they don't appear to continue to the outside.
