A G Sangwell Martin Brothers Pottery Grotesque Dragons Tribute Art Pottery Vase

About the Item

An unusual and rare Martin Brothers tribute vase by A G Sangwell, but recorded by the collector as A E Sangwell the owner of a hardware shop at 25 Featherstone Road (confirmed through Ealing library), London, decorated with grotesque dragons and dated 1930. The pottery vase is of four sided tapered square shape with a narrowing neck and a cut side top rim. The sides of the vase is hand decorated with incised grotesque dragons outline coloured in green on a cream coloured ground. The vase is similarly incised to Martin Brothers to the base and marked A.G. Sangwell Southall 7.6.1930. A very unusual piece and one of several which originated from a Martin Brothers collection. Offered in good condition. Provenance: acquired from an extensive private Martin Brothers pottery collection. From the private collection of a Belgian based gentleman.
