Minton Majolica Hanging Planter Basket, Bird's Nest, Cherries, Dated 1872

About the Item

Minton Majolica Hanging Planter/Basket, the planter molded as a birds nest with red glazed cherries and green leaves, the interior glazed in turquoise, the woven bail handle glazed in yellow, with leaves, tendrils, and vines, surmounted by a looped vine for hanging, impressed marks to base, 'MINTON,' Minton date cypher for 1872, and design number '941' which corresponds to the entry, 'BASKET, SUSPENSION, BIRDS NEST (M), H 6 1/2 D 6 1/2' in the Minton Majolica Shape Books preserved in the Minton Archives and printed in Jones (p. 349).
