About the Item

Sevres Creamware Figures Emblematic of Four Seasons, Modeled after/by Bachelier  France, 19th Century  Three are marked with the interlaced L mark, one is numbered 260, and two have import / retailer illegible labels. Made in France during the 19th century, these figures are marked with the interlaced "L" mark, with one numbered 260. Two of them retain import or retailer labels, although their legibility has faded over time. These figures, representing the four seasons, are crafted in a non-typical Sevres porcelain medium known as creamware. They are based on models by Jean-Jacques Bachelier, a renowned French painter and director of the porcelain factory at Sèvres. Bachelier was instrumental in the development of unglazed biscuit porcelain, which he introduced as a final product at Sèvres in 1751. It is possible that these creamware works might be an experimental productions by or influenced by Bachelier. Winter measures 3 inches wide, 3 inches deep, and 6.5 inches high. Spring and Summer both measure 3 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep, and 6.5 inches high.
