Mobach Keramiek is a pottery factory in the Dutch city of Utrecht that was founded at the end of the 19th century. It is best known for the artistic high-quality ceramics it has made since then.
The company was founded in 1895 in Utrecht as the Utrechtsche Pottenfabriek by Klaas Jaan Mobach, who comes from a Frisian potter family. Several generations then continued. The process of manufacturing ceramics has remained almost the same over the course of history. The pottery is turned in small series or as a unica or manually constructed from clay rolls or - plates, after which it is glazed. In particular, the man-sized planters and vases are well-known ceramic products from Mobach. Piet Klaarhamer and Gerrit Rietveld designed a number of vases.
The factory building dating from 1913 on the Kanaalweg along the Merwedekanaal, together with three accompanying workers' houses, have the status of a national monument. Part of the collection is housed at that location in a museum that is open once a year.
At Oudegracht 198, the Mobach family also ran a store since 1910 where they sold their ceramics. The store was taken over by another owner in 1970 and moved to the Choorstraat in 1975. Under the name Mobach, it was a specialty store in design items that existed there until 2014.

Mobach
Since the establishment, five generations of Mobachs have been working with a team of staff in a historic building on Kanaalweg, Utrecht. Throughout the century, the method hardly changed. All ceramics are thrown on the wheel or shaped by hand from coils or sheets of clay. The ceramic pieces, such as the bodies of this set, owe their distinctive look to the exclusive glazes, which are composed according to the company’s recipe. Due to the high firing temperature, Mobach ceramics are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
