Legras Vase White, Clear, Red from a Series Launched at the Paris 1900 Expo

About the Item

Fabulous large Legras vase in a squared offed rounded form with dimpled sides. It comes from a series produced for the 1900 Paris Exhibition -and documented in the main Legras book p59 (Michel & Vitrat) which shows a similar vase. The lower part of the body is primarily clear with brown, brick red and white dappling -and it is finely gilded with a hanging plant with berries. The upper collar of the vase has the typical Legras impress pattern and is gilded (slightly worn -see pictures) in a complex leaf pattern. These vases are often mistaken for vases by Ernest-Baptiste Leveillé -his vases used similar mottling but usually added more colour and crackling. Legras at this time were the most important of the Paris based glass makers.
