Wedgwood Palissy Majolica Snail Shell and Coral Open Salt Cellar, Dated 1872

About the Item

A very rarely seen Wedgwood Majolica glazed shell and coral open salt cellar molded in the Palissy style – date marked 1872. The globose snail shell shaped cellar is glazed in a mottled blue and brown, and sits on a raised yellow ochre coral form pedestal with a brown rock form mounded base. The interior is clear glazed, showing the color of the clay, the underside is glazed in a pale green and marked as shown. Impressed: Wedgwood, and the date letters, BZY A, the A for the year 1872. 3 in. L x 2.5 in. W x 3 in. H Excellent antique conditions.
