Silver Jardiniere With Artfully Cut Glass Insert, Wilkens & Sons Germany, 1894

Elegant, festive silver vessel in an oval shape on a stepped base with projecting, pierced rocaille elements, pierced decoration also on the upper rim of the wall with irregular edges, front and back panels surrounded by volutes and rocailles, the narrow sides with towering and intertwined volutes forming two handles, gilded interior. Matching glass insert with upper edge adapted to the silver vessel, cut stone and fan decoration, lens cut, star base. - Crescent + Crown - German official hallmark from 1888 - 800 - fineness - Screw press - Manufacture brand for M. H.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German silver and glass jar; an addition to our diverse range of continental silverware. This exceptional antique German 800 standard silver box has a circular shaped form. The jar is fitted with a push fit silver cover realistically modelled in the form of a stemmed apple. The antique glass body of the jar has a subtly panelled form and is ornamented with cut glass decoration in a geometric design, in addition to a star cut motif to the underside. The upper rim of the jar is fitted with a hallmarked silver mount. The hallmarks struck to the surface of the antique silver mount include: National mark: Crescent moon and crown, Germany Silver quality/purity mark: 800 (800/1000) Maker's mark: WTB (untraced) Condition This antique German silver mounted jar is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
