Late 19th Century Fairground Knock Down Figure
About the Item
Jeu De Massacre Fairground Figure
One of the finest examples of a late 19th Century fairground knock down figure we have had the pleasure to obtain, in the form of what resembles Charlie Chaplin. The Jeu de Massacre figure has a hand carved wooden head, torso, shoes, and flat pine hands. In its original cotton tuxedo style clothing and cast-iron hinges. This figure is of French origin and would typically have been used as a game to throw wooden balls at, the aim of the game is to knock over the head to gain a reward/prize. In our humble opinion this is one of the best examples we have ever seen, a museum object.
