Tiffany Studios Wave Glass Floor Lamp

About the Item

This exceptional floor lamp by Tiffany Studios features an iconic dome shade crafted from the firm's legendary Favrile glass, complemented by its original curved harp bronze base that accentuates the shade's overall form. Supported by three elegantly curved legs ending in spade feet, this striking lamp stands gracefully. Displaying the beautiful Wave pattern, the blown glass shade shines with the iridescent luster of a green and gold gradient. The lamp exhibits a vivid green hue when turned off, and comes alive with brilliant yellows and pinks when lit. Complete with both a Favrile glass shade and a base of Tiffany’s invention, this floor lamp is one of the rare examples of a complete Tiffany design still intact today. Standing floor lamps such as this one are particularly rare and highly desirable as a stunning marriage of form and function. Inspired by the fluidity and translucence of ancient Roman and Middle Eastern glass, Louis C. Tiffany produced blown glass, named "Favrile," between 1891 and 1928. The glass became renowned for its colorful opalescent and iridescent finishes. In sharp contrast to more "industrial art" and commercially produced pieces, the Favrile collection featured hand-crafted objects that were both beautiful and functional. This Wave floor lamp with a harp base is one of the finest examples of these highly desirable collectors’ items. A similar dome Wave pattern shade with its bronze harp base is pictured in Tiffany Lamps and Metalware: An Illustrated Reference of over 2000 Models by A. Duncan on p. 210, no. 820. Circa 1900 Shade signed "L. C. T" Base impressed "Tiffany Studios/New York/423 H 55 1/2" high x 14“ wide x 12 1/4" deep

  • Gallé Cameo Glass Table Lamp
    By Emile Gallé
    Located in New Orleans, LA
Statuesque and artfully etched, this exquisite cameo glass table lamp is the work of the famed Art Nouveau master Émile Gallé, one of the most highly regarded names in French glassmaking. The artist's appreciation of nature is on full display in the detailed Marguerite daisy pattern carefully etched in varying layers of colored glass. The blooms dance across the lamp's amber-colored form in mesmerizing shades of purple and red. When lit, the lamp emits an enticing warm glow. Nearly two feet in height, the lamp is much larger than is typical of Gallé's pieces, yet it maintains its grace and proportion. Émile Gallé opened a small woodworker's shop in 1885, where he began experimenting with marquetry in furniture and naturalistic glass designs. In 1889, he displayed his new glass creations at the Paris International Exhibition, where the designs and colors not previously seen caused an immediate sensation. The new style of Art Nouveau had begun to appear, and the movement's aesthetics and devotion to nature appealed greatly to the young Gallé. In 1894 Gallé built a manufacturing plant in Nancy and began creating his own designs from inception through production. Gallé personally developed many of the designs, and he was known to actively make alterations and approve the designs of his talented team of designers and craftsmen he employed at the "Cristallerie D'Emile Gallé." Signed "Gallé" on shade and base Circa 1920 Literature: A. Duncan, G. de Bartha, Glass by Gallé, London, 1984, p. 170, pl. 245 for another lamp of this model A. Duncan, G. de Bartha, Gallé Lamps...
