A Pair of Impressive Paavo Tynell Commissioned Wall Lamps, Taito c. 1950s
About the Item
When you think you've seen it all, Tynell still manages to surprise and impresss with his endless line of majestic designs. Here we have an astonishing pair of wall lamps that are extremely rare and very difficult to come across. Amazingly enough this pair is in beautiful original condition with a beautiful patina and amber colour shades.
Paavo Tynell often used branches and leaves to create decorative touches in his lamps, turning the glass shades into flowers and eventually the whole lamps in bouquets of light. Usually, the leaves were created with brass mesh, yet in this example, he referred to perforated solid brass sheets, creating a sumptuous touch to compliment the grandeur intended with these lamps.
Also, the size that extends to over 70 cm is much bigger than what we usually come across in Tynell wall lamps, giving this pair an extra weight that will make it fill up any space it is located in.
The combination of brass and glass has proven to be an excellent combo and a favorite by customers. These hand blown glass shades are of amber colour that makes them stand out even with the lights off turning the lamps into a sculptural piece of art. The shades are of a later date.
These lamps were acquired from a private residence close to the Helsinki region. As is evident from the drawing, this type wall lamps were commissioned at Taito.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. These lamps are in their original condition. The shades are of a later date, but are almost identical to the original ones from the 1950s. The overall impression is very good.
