"Leda and the Swan, " Spectacular Art Deco Porcelain Lamp by De Vegh for Lenox
About the Item
Beautifully sculpted with a low relief design featuring Leda and the Swan, and glazed in shades of flannel gray and white, this gorgeous, highly rare lamp was sculpted by Geza De Vegh for the famous Lenox porcelain works in Trenton, New Jersey. Each side of the lamp features a different scene of Leda, stylized in high style Art Deco manner. The lamp retains its original gray finial; the shade is a replacement. The lamp also retains its original cloth cord, so rewiring is recommended. (Dimensions include shade; lamp base itself is 12 inches high.).

- "Shepherd and Shepherdess, " Monumental Art Deco Sculptures, Probably by De VeghBy Geza De VeghLocated in Philadelphia, PAMonumental and dignified, this pair of Art Deco sculptures depict a shepherd and shepherdess, crisply shaped and stylized like the best of 1930s public sculpture, and painted in rich but subdued colors with an effect like sun-bleached stucco. It is our estimation that they were sculpted by Geza De Vegh, the Hungarian-American sculptor who created a range of pieces for the Lenox and Lamberton Scammell porcelain works, both in Trenton, New Jersey, as well as a group of rare ceramic pieces for the Phoenix Company. Importantly, De Vegh's work was very popular among set designers and art directors in Hollywood. His works are evident in the background of important Bette Davis films such as "The Letter," art directed by Carl Weyl; and "Now Voyager...Category
