Gianni Celada Italian Designer for Fontana Arte

About the Item

A wall mirror model Brama by Gianni Celada for Fontana Arte. FontanaArte S.p.A. is an Italian company founded in Milan (as Fontana Arte) in 1932 by Luigi Fontana and Giò Ponti and specialised in the manufacture of glass and furnishing accessories. It is known for its work with curved crystal and for the production of lighting fixtures, becoming an important name in Italian design over the years. In 1881 Luigi Fontana founded an industry producing glass sheets for building purposes: Luigi Fontana & Compagni. The company's growth led the founder to give it further visibility by taking part in the International Fair in Milan with its own pavilion in 1906; the visibility brought new investors within a few years and in 1910 Saint-Gobain acquired the majority of the company; Luigi Fontana retained the role of artistic director. The company changed its name to Società Anonima and the distribution network expanded internationally. Sales outlets were opened in Turin, Genoa, Venice, Trieste, Rome, Cagliari, Sassari, Messina, Palermo; agencies in the Italian colonies, Europe and South America.
