Pair of Chinese Painted Wall Mirrors, c. 1900

About the Item

This pair of rectangular wall mirrors feature early 20th-century frames crafted of a fine-grained hardwood. At some point in their storied history, the frames were brushed with red paint, now gently worn to reveal the wood grain underneath. The mirrors hang from brass rungs shaped like cloud-form ruyi, symbols of good fortune and longevity. Fresh mirrors replace the lost originals. From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
