Two Elegant Wrought Iron Parrot Cages, France, 19th Century

About the Item

Very rare and elegant pair of cylindrical bird cages, painted green. Flamboyant, in a classical, Madeleine Castaing sort of way. Would look wonderful in a glassed winter garden! Designed for parrots, the rods are very thick to prevent them cutting through them with their beaks. Each have two doors, one high and one low. Beautifully scrolling wrought iron bases. Cone-shaped roofs of riveted sheet metal.
