Large Leather Steamer Trunk

About the Item

A wonderful late 19th-century leather steamer trunk. The trunk is made of canvas and has been leather-mounted around a wicker dome top. Two large buckles to the front of the trunk secure the lid coupled with a small buckle to either end. To the rear, the trunk has two large leather hinges with studded brackets. The case has large carrying handles on either side for easy transportation. Once open the case has its original hessian lining with a removable tray that fits perfectly inside the top of the case. As the professional restoration of this piece was being completed the restorer found a French newspaper dating to 1948 which we thought was a lovely little addition to this timeless piece. The trunk comes with an outer protective canvas bag that would have once surrounded the case to protect the leather when the trunk would have been shipped around the world. This has seen better days but we have included it in the sale but remains unrestored and inside the trunk. The trunk has been fully restored to bring it back to its former glory and ready to travel the world again. Exceptional in every way! English, circa 1880.
