Empire Style White and Gold Pair of Armchairs, Sharkskin Style Trim, 1950s
About the Item
Empire style white carved wood with gold highlights pair of armchairs.
Standing on two front tapered legs and two back saber legs. Straight apron and uprights, rectangular backseat and seat.
Spherical handling part of the armrests, reminding the officers' armchairs. Those seats were conceived as officers can sit while keeping their sword on their belt; to this end, armrests were in withdrawal or purely deleted and, as a substitute, there was a spherical knob armrest.
Carved ornamentation with friezes alternating Empire style typical patterns palm-leaves and rosettes.
Gold trim imitating the sharkskin, similar galuchat French word.
Work from the mid-20th century, in good condition.
