The Flag Halyard Chair designed by Hans J. Wegner for Getama, Denmark, 1950

About the Item

The Flag Halyard Chair designed by Hans J. Wegner for Getama, Denmark, 1950 Lacquered steel frame, wooden "shoes", textile and chromed steel top with flag halyard. Provenance Reportedly purchased in 1959 at Silverbergs Möbler, Malmö Exhibitions Model presented in 1959 at The Arts and Crafts Spring Exhibition at Designmuseum Denmark in 1950 The ‘Flag Halyard Chair’ was designed by the esteemed Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner in 1950 and produced by the company Getama. It is among the most celebrated mid-century modern designs. The defining characteristic of the ‘Flag Halyard Chair’ lies in its seat and back, which are made up of skillfully handwoven halyard rope – a strong material used in sailing. The chair's frame is constructed from sturdy steel, ensuring longevity and also offering a sleek aesthetic. With its low-slung profile and dynamic lines, ‘Flag Halyard Chair’ represents the era's dedication to simplicity and the integration of form and function. The width of the chair, along with an elegant head cushion and removable sheepskin, offers a comfortable seating experience.
