Mid 20th Century Domus Chair Designed By Ilmari Tapiovaara, Finland

About the Item

Domus chair was designed by Finnish interior architect and designer Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1946. The chair was designed for the Domus Academica student housing complex, located in Helsinki Finland. The Domus Chair achieved great success internationally, becoming known as “The Finn Chair." Domus-chair has become a beloved classic of Finnish design. This chair is an original production, manufactured by Keravan Puuteollisuus Oy in 1950s. (Nowadays model is manufactured by Artek.) - Seat and backrest in stained birch, birch-frame has painted white. Seat and backrest re-varnished. - the seat part was repaired at some point, can be seen in the pictures.     Refinished. Repaired: Seat part was repaired at some point, can be seen in the pictures. Look pics closely. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. Minor fading. Frame painted white afterwards by professional painter. Seat and backrest re-varnished.
