Pair of Early Barcelona Chair by Mies Van Der Rohe by Stiegler 1950s

About the Item

These rare Barcelona chairs were designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1929 for the famous Barcelona pavillon and produced by Stiegler in the 1950s. Stiegler was a small company who constructed the frames for Knoll International between 1954 and 1976. The shown examples are the 1st generation of the Stiegler production. Indicator for that is the overlapt corners which are fixed with screws and the skids which are rounded. After the very first editions which were designed by Mies van der Rohe for the Barcelona pavillon and the Tugendhat Villa in Brunn, these editions are very hard to find. With the overlapt corners, the Barcelona chair was produced only for about 4 years until 1958. The pieces features brown leather straps. The frames are untouched and having an amazing patina.
