Warren Platner for Knoll Lounge Chair in Knoll Velvet with Bronze Finish

About the Item

A beautiful Warren Platner for Knoll lounge chair (Model 1715L), upholstered in a gorgeous burgundy (wine) color velvet fabric over a bronze finish frame. The deep burgundy velvet is a luxurious upgrade over the standard knit fabric that is more commonly seen, the fabric is called "Knoll Velvet" and the color is called "Wine". See last photo for current price on this same configuration of over $9,200 per chair. Bronze finish frame is clean and free of rust and fabric is clean and free of stains. No odors, chairs were in a smoke free and animal free environment. The Warren Platner Wire collection was debuted in 1966 by Knoll Associates then later produced by Knoll International and now by Knoll Studio. This Platner club chair by Knoll would work great in a Mid-Century Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary or Postmodern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Being highly durable, this set of armchairs would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Product story: With his experience in the firm of Eero Saarinen and Associates, it is not surprising that the mantel for the second generation of pedestal and wire furniture fell on the creative shoulders of Warren Platner. Reflecting a dramatic shift in cultural values, modernism became more expressive in the 1960s. Platner felt there was an opportunity to merge the competing aesthetics of the time. “I began to think about what I thought furniture, specifically a chair, really might be, starting with the philosophy that it isn’t going to be aggressively technological, or aggressively handicraft…I, as a designer, felt there was room for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful kind of design that appeared in period style like Louis XV, but it could have a more rational base instead of being applied decoration…I thought why separate support from the object. Just make it all one thing. Starts at the floor and comes up and envelops me, supports me…What I wanted to achieve was a chair that, number one, was complementary to the person sitting in it, or to the person in the space between the wall and the chair — what the chair did for the person in respect to the scale of the person and the space.” CONDITION: Very good condition, ready for immediate use. Frame is clean and clear of rust. No breaks, no bent wires, sturdy and structurally sound. Fabric is clean with no stains, odors, tears or issues, only very light wear that is almost invisible to the eye. Ready for immediate use in a luxury setting.
