French 18th Century Transitional Marquetry Commode
About the Item
French Louis XV-XVI transitional period commode with lovely marquetry in satinwood, rosewood and tulipwood, Gris Sainte Anne marble top and three drawers. The commode features a central marquetry design of a bouquet of flowers spanning the lower two drawers. The top drawer is separated from the lower two. Gilt-bronze mounts, with working locks and key. The commode is probably from eastern France, perhaps Grenoble.

- Condition:Refinished. Repaired: There is evidence of previous veneer repairs and/or restorations; and the marble top was cracked and repaired. The restoration work was done in France, we do not know by who or when. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Very good, restored condition, with various minor veneer cracks or splits, minor old marquetry repairs, and wear to varnished finish, all consistent with age and use. The marble top has been cracked and professionally repaired.
