19th Century Swedish Renaissance Revival Birch Piano Stool / Side Table

About the Item

An exquisitely carved Nordic - Scandinavian birchwood antique piano stool (now chair side table) dating to the late 19th century. Most likely born in Sweden, circa 1880, featuring an exceptionally executed sculptural silhouette, with rich, fine quality detailing, having a rotating circular seat top with delicate floral scroll flourish relief medallion, over scalloped apron ornamentation, rising on gracefully curved acanthus carved cabriole legs ending in deer hoofs. Dimensions: (approx) Overall: 18.5" High, 26" Diameter; Top: 17" Diameter Legs: 19" Wide, 19" Deep Provenance / Acquisition: John Phifer Marrs collection. Important auction house J. Garrett Auctioneers, Dallas, Texas, May 2021 catalog, presented a special curated collection from John Phifer Marrs, premier Southern interior designer known for an elegant, fresh and inviting design method, often called The New Southern Style. John's work has been regularly featured in local and national publications including the venerable Architectural Digest, Traditional Home, and many others. He recently released his new book, Interiors for Collectors, and stays busy with both design work and author appearances. Condition: Good antique condition. Presents splendidly, with nicely aged patina and dry unpolished surface that gives it a light, warm, almost bleached wood tone. Warped top. Lacking single apron carving. View photos. All wear consistent with age and use, adding to the overall antique character, authenticity, and rustic European old world charm! Please note; although it supported 100lbs without issue, we do not recommend this to be used for seating. Ideal size and proportions for use as a guéridon, end table, portable cocktail drinks or wine table, plant stand, or simply displayed as the decorative masterpiece it is.
