About the Item
Hand applied 24-karat gold leaf Venetian glass mosaic, set in mortar with an iron frame. By artists CaCO3. Can be arrange horizontal or vertical.
Sheets of Murano glass are backed with gold leaf and then chipped by hand to create individual matchsticks which are inserted into a colored mortar. The angle of insertion is gradually flattened as they work from one side to the other so that the gold leaf becomes more visible.
Moving from side to side changes the angle of view and therefore the effect - hence the series name Movimento.
Each piece can be mounted horizontally or vertically (as shown).
Based in Ravenna, this multinational trio met whilst studying mosaic restoration on the UNESCO-supported course and developed a unique and meticulous process which takes mosaic art in a completely new direction.
The photos show the pieces in groups of 5. The pieces are sold individually. We have three available (at the time of creating the listing).
