1870s French Rococo Revival Yellow Blue White Enamel Pottery Wall Art Plaque

About the Item

Late 19th century, very large earthenware ceramic sculpture platter or charger, of the French Second Empire period, entirely hand painted in Francois Boucher style, the romantic and subtly erotic scene as a central medallion depicts a young shepherd and maid in a farm landscape surrounded by flock and a dog calling for attention. This Fine Art faience is decorated with vitreous enamel in vibrant and fresh colors, green, blue, white, yellow and adorned by a large border in Italian style with a vivid blue scrolling acanthus leaf design under an orange architectural pattern. The white enamel back has a raised rim perforated in four places to accommodate the hanging wires. Under glaze blue mark: "Peinture sur Email cru, Manufacture MF".
