Pair of Antique Italian circa 1790 Carved and Gilt Neoclassical Panels

About the Item

Notable pair of decorative over-door panels dating from the height of the neoclassical period in all original very good condition. One with a Christies 1967 label on verso. A label in script on verso naming a French town St. Chaumant and the name Dugas (?). While there is information from France attached, the panels are believed to be Italian (Piedmontese). A high relief carved and gilt leafy swag wrapped in wavy ribbons tied at the ends above supporting roundels. The lower center with a rosette. Mounted on a two panel pale gray faux marble backing. Framed in a darker gray faux marble wood with thin gilt inner edge. Wood back panels. Each panel measures: Framed 24” x 39" x 2.5” deep. Condition: The interior boards have a slight age warping which does not affect the presentation along with stable cracks to the ribbons top and bottom, some chips along frame edges, one with a gouge on the upper right back frame edge and a small hole on the left edge (please see photos) all mentioned for accuracy as the pair present exceptionally well.
