Edward Armfield 19th Century Oil Painting Depicting Dogs Flushing a Pheasant

An English oil on canvas painting by Edward Armfield from the 19th century depicting three Spaniel dogs flushing a pheasant. Created in England by British painter Edward Armfield (1817-1896), this oil on canvas painting depicts three spaniel dogs with brown, white or black coats, flushing a pheasant. The scene is set in the woods, the dogs running amidst a luscious vegetation. The pheasant is flying above their heads towards the left side of the composition, its small presence subtly accentuated by a grouping of trees in the background. George Armfield was born in Wales in 1817. The 19th century was particularly found of animal subjects and Armfield was one of the artists who dedicated their lives to their portrayal. His talent created a great demand for his work and he was among England’s finest animal artists. The painting is set inside an old giltwood frame. With its skillful execution and elegant subject, this Edward Armfield oil on canvas painting from the 19th century will enliven any wall beautifully!.
