Funny Comedienne Phyllis Diller Original Oil Painting on Canvas with 2 Titles

About the Item

Humorous original oil on canvas with black ink, painting by deceased American comedienne, Phyllis Diller (1917-2012), which she titled, “Two Idiots On A Bicycle Pulling A Large Animal” written on the wood canvas stretcher, and “Subservient Dog Driving 2 White Animals In A Cart”, written on the back of the canvas. When she initially wrote the word, "Subservient", she misspelled it, so she just crossed it out and wrote it correctly above the crossout. The painting has been beautifully framed, in a very transitional style black and mottled gold frame with a solid black liner accented with a decorative mottled gold fillet. A new paper dust jacket now covers the titles in the back. Please refer to the photos taken before the painting was framed. The dust jacket paper is easily removed to expose the titles. Signed and dated, “Phyllis Diller ‘87” in the lower right corner. Visible image measures approximately 27.75" wide x 21.5" high”. Frame measures approximately 35.25” wide x 29.5” high x 1.25" deep”. Weighs approximately 6 pounds. Phyllis Diller was an American actress and stand-up comedienne, best known for her eccentric stage persona, her self-deprecating humor, her wild hair and clothes, and her cackling laugh. She was a groundbreaking stand-up comic who was one of the first female comics to become a household name in the U.S. She paved the way for Ellen DeGeneres, Joan Rivers and Roseanne Barr, among others, who credit her influence. She worked in acrylics, watercolors, and oils throughout the 1970s and 1980s and filled her Brentwood, California home with her portraits and still lifes. In 2003, at age 86, she held the first of several "art parties," selling her artwork along with her stage clothes and costume jewelry. Her works have sold in auction for over $4,000.00.

  • Original Space Artist Andreas Nottebohm Acrylic on Aluminum Painting KNM 1387
    Located in Tustin, CA
Visionary, abstract original acrylic on aluminum painting by famous NASA Space Artist, Andreas Nottebohn, titled "KNM 1387" depicts a colorful, otherworldly scene on a shimmering sheet of scored metal. This incredible celestial painting frees the viewer from a one dimensional perspective by suggesting a vast and mysterious distance. Information on the back of the painting states, “KNM 1387 Spec 1 of 48 similar original paintings 1996 30 x 24 Acrylic on Aluminum”. Hand signed by the artist in the lower left corner. Very nicely custom framed in a transitional style black frame with wide silver inner lining. Framed, the painting measures approximately 35" high x 29" wide x 2" deep. Unframed painting measures approximately 30" high x 24" wide. One of the key innovators of metal painting, Nottebohm creates what might be called sculptures on a flat plane. By removing microscopic layers from the metal surface, he transforms the material into patterns of shimmering light. The unusual luminous quality of Nottebohm's work comes from the aluminum surfaces he scores, using a variety of manual and machine tools. Aluminum can create light and movement that you cannot create with anything else. It is similar to the sun reflecting on water, and you see one painting from one side and another painting from another side. East German born (1944) Andreas Nottebohm moved to Munich as a teenager and immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area of the United States in 1979, after touring the U.S. for a one man exhibition. While in Germany in the 1970s, he was one of the co-founders of the Society for Art and Science in Munich. Around the time he relocated to the United States, he was invited to participate in the NASA Art...

  • William Keith Original Tonal Oil Painting of California Misty Woodland Landscape
    Located in Tustin, CA
Original oil painting on canvas, Tonal-style landscape painting by listed, deceased, famous artist, William Keith (1838-1911). Painting features a group of majestic trees near a pond of water at deep dusk or early dawn. A lone shepherd, seated beneath a tree, watches over his herd of sheep as they make their way down to the water. The tone is relaxed and misty, with softly blurred details and an air of hazy tranquility. William Keith was a Scottish-American painter famous for his plein air California landscapes, characterized by how the landscapes captured feelings and emotions, rather than actual details. He was neither pure Realist nor pure Impressionist. During the 1870s, Keith painted a number of six-by ten-foot panoramas, including "Kings River Canyon" (Oakland Museum, originally owned by Governor Leland Stanford) and "California Alps" (Mission Inn, Riverside). These competed with paintings of similar size and subject matter by famous California landscape painters Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Hill. Keith is associated with Tonalism and the American Barbizon school of painting...
